Baseball Hits Six Homeruns, But Drop Both Sides of Twinbill

 The Assumption University baseball team launched six homeruns, but they would fall in both halves of the doubleheader against Bentley University Saturday afternoon at Lake Brantley High School.

 

THE BASICS

Game One Score: Bentley University 12, Assumption University 11

Game Two Score: Bentley University 7, Assumption University 0

Records: Greyhounds (1-5, 0-0 NE10), Falcons (3-0, 0-0 NE10)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE - Bentley University 12, Assumption University 11

Assumption struck early in the first game, as Jared Berardino launched a three-run homerun over the centerfield fence in the top of the first The Falcons responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame on just two hits.

 

The back-and-forth game would continue in the top of the second, as Jake Hamel hit a solo homerun, before Emilio Acosta and Berardino each hit two-run shots, making it 8-5 Assumption. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 9-5 with a solo shot off the bat of Cole Durkin in the fourth, while the AU advantage would grow to 11-5 following two more runs in the fifth.

 

In the bottom half of the fifth, the Falcons came roaring back, as they plated six runs in the frame, which knotted the game at 11-11. Stan DeMartinis III broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun.

 

GAME TWO - Bentley University 7, Assumption University 0

 In the second game, Bentley was able to use the longball to their advantage, as Liam Sears and Eddy Beauregard went back-to-back in the first. DeMartinis III hit his second longball of the day in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0 Falcons. Bentley tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their advantage to 7-0.

 

Ryan Shea got the start and went 5.0 innings with six strikeouts for the Greyhounds
